Team Information and Policies ~
(Summer 2008)
General
Team
information will be found in the file box stored in the
team room or located in the “New” pavilion at times when
practice is in session, accessible to the swimmer only.
Remember to have the swimmer check the box
on a
regular basis.
Any
information placed in the file box must include
the swimmer’s name on the paper.
A phone
chain is utilized when parents must be notified of
pertinent information.
Parents
should attend all parent meetings and team activities.
Stay informed!
Coaches
should be informed of any medical limitations of a
swimmer. If the coaches request a doctor’s clearance,
please comply.
Parents
are responsible for swimmer’s medical and hospital
insurance.
All
swimmers are expected to participate in fundraisers,
which support the entire team. Each family has the
option to pay a "buy out" fee on the sub sale. Volunteer
your help!
Coaches’ responsibilities include: setting times for and
conducting practices, organizing line ups and coaching
meets, attending invitationals, etc. (at least one coach
at each invitational). Decisions are made to benefit the
team concept.
Invitationals require an additional fee per swimmer, per
event. Payment will be required with the registration
prior to the meet. Each invitational payment will be
received by a different parent coordinator (ie. A
separate check for each invitational).
Invitationals set the number of entries each swimmer may
enter. At Divisionals each swimmer may only swim three
(3) events.
Lightning procedure is at the discretion of the coaches,
who will designate the procedure to assure the safety of
the swimmers.
Arrange
a meeting with the coach (es) to discuss your concerns.
Do not approach them as soon as practice for your
swimmer has ended. Coaches’ jobs don’t end when the
swimmers are done. Utilize the telephone to contact
them.
Any
questions or comments regarding the Swim Team program
and its coaches should be directed to the Hummelstown
Swim Club representatives. Coaches are directly
responsible to the Hummelstown Swim Club Board.
Team Spirit and Behavior
Proper behavior of swimmers and parents is expected
at all practices and meets. Display good
sportsmanship!
Parents or swimmers who violate the rules will be
ejected.
Swimmers
will be disciplined fairly and as deemed necessary. The
coach’s decision is final.
A swimmer
may be removed from the program for continual misbehavior
and/or disrespectfulness. There will be no refund of
registration fees, suit costs, or fund raising monies.
Practice
Attendance
at practice should be on a regular basis. Valid excuses are
acceptable. Please send a note if a swimmer is to leave
practice early.
After
school is over for the summer, practices are usually held in
the mornings. Prior to the end of school, evening or
afternoon practices are utilized.
Approximate
length of practice is 1 hour or 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Swimmers
must attend three (3) practice sessions (on different days)
per week to be eligible to participate in the meet for that
week.
Technique
clinics will be held in the evenings at the coach’s
discretion.
Parents
are not to be on the pool deck during practice times. Do not
speak with the coaches at this time. Make other arrangements
to meet with the coaches when they are available.
Meets
Meets are
scheduled primarily on Saturday mornings. Swimmers are
expected to be on the deck 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to
the start of a home meet and 45 minutes prior to the start
of an away meet. Starting times will be announced at
practice.
Parents
are needed to run home meets. Do your part!
Coaches
decide on the meet line up for the best opportunity to
successfully participate in a meet. Honor their judgments.
Parents do not make requests. This is a team effort.
ALL
swim team members are expected to participate in all the
swim meets. There is no option available where a swimmer
may attend practice only.
Do not let your team down . . . Swim where needed.
If a
swimmer is unable to participate in a meet, written
notification should be given to the coaches by Wednesday the
week of the meet. Exceptions to this would be illness,
injury, or family emergency. The coaches should be notified
of vacations with specific beginning and ending dates.
To be
eligible to swim at Divisionals, a swimmer must swim in 50%
of the regular season meets. (ie. If there are 5 meets, a
swimmer must swim in 3 meets.)
To promote
team spirit and unity, swimmers are encouraged to wear the
team suit and cap for all meets.
At swim
meets only coaches, swimmers, and meet personnel are
permitted on the pool deck or around the pool. Others must
remain in the spectator areas.
Team spirit
requires all swimmers to stay until the end of every meet
(home or away). Prior arrangements must be made with the
coaches to leave a meet early. Be Hummelstown Swim Team
proud!
Swimmers
should clean up their area of paper and trash at the
conclusion of every meet.
Meet
ribbons will be placed in the file box at the meets and
should be retrieved by the swimmer ONLY at the first
practice following the meet.
